Participants will explore the world of sand, which is rarely used in art. They will first learn about the origins, types and uses of sand, then explore the texture of sand and discover new sensations. Finally, participants will learn about the tradition of Japanese sand gardens and use pebbles and coloured glass pieces to create their own mandalas in sand. After the educational session, students will share their impressions and emotions and take away a souvenir of their creation.

The current concept of number has been centuries in the making, and the first units of measurement were related to parts of the body, such as the foot or the sextant. The development of the number system led to the development of arithmetic, mathematics, and a variety of counting and measuring instruments. Participants will learn about the ways and means of counting and measuring used in ancient Lithuania, and will apply their knowledge of geometry and art to fold and decorate a multi-dimensional geometric figure – a flexagon.

The lesson illustrates the most important events in the history of 19th century Lithuania related to the ban on the Lithuanian press. Participants learn about the heroism of the book bearers and their role in the struggle to preserve the Lithuanian language. The education provides a theatrical insight into the everyday life of the 19th century through interactive and theatrical activities, exploring the Daraktorian schools and understanding their significance for the survival of Lithuanian culture.

The current concept of number has evolved over centuries of scientific, commercial and urban development. Mathematical methods are applied in physics, computer science, economics and sociology. In ancient times, people used a variety of measurement techniques that are now forgotten or replaced by international standards. The aim of the distance learning activity is to remind pupils of ancient ways of calculating, how debts were marked with dashes or knots. During the tele-learning session, we will learn how to count with body gauges, wooden calculators and make calculators at home. We will also learn geometry and try to fold a multi-dimensional geometric figure using the methodological material provided in advance.

The activities in the remote session develop fine motor skills, coordination, attention and patience, while encouraging language development. Participants will learn about the history of the origins of daily writing in the Eastern countries, the oldest writing instruments in Lithuanian schools and interwar daily writing publications. Using the methodological material provided in advance, participants will learn the rules of writing, watch the educator’s actions on the screen and carry out individual tasks. The activities will strengthen the participants’ national identity and aesthetic taste.

In ancient times, human life followed the rhythm of nature. Trees, stones, mountains and lakes were believed to have divine powers, and human existence depended on them. In the oral creations handed down from generation to generation, we often find animals with human qualities, and we compare people to some of nature’s creations: strong as an oak, cunning as a fox, dirty as a piglet… During the educational session, the pupils will listen to stories, play cognitive games, and experience the creative joy of making a paper bird from memory.

In the exposition “Visual Means of Ancient Natural Sciences”, the young visitors will play theatre – they will become directors, actors and spectators. The educational activity starts with a short introduction to theatrical reading. After a brief explanation of the roles, the “actors” read the text and play the role of their character. In this activity, reading becomes a game. The aim of the activity is to promote the pupils’ reading aloud skills and their ability to follow the text read by others, while at the same time fostering their creativity, concentration and attentiveness. Theatrical readings contribute to the development of children who are thoughtful, emotionally healthy and imaginative.
