Language, religion, poetry, music, mathematics, faith – words that most accurately describe the person endowed with rich talents – Antanas Baranauskas (1835–1902).
Everyone has heard about the stump mountains and hills that have been bald in Anykščiai, although those who knew how many Lithuanian literature. But, about the tangles of Antanas Baranauskas’ mathematical formulas, attempts to control the chaotic change of primary numbers, about the addition of terms to the poor vocabulary of Lithuanian geometry with terms – a triangle, a polygon, a pointed and right angle, the concept of space – not every Ace Lithuanian knows. To commemorate the 190th anniversary of the birth of A. Baranauskas, we present a unique work by the priest Adomas Jakštas (Aleksandras Dambrauskas): “Antanas Baranauskas as a Mathematician” (Solomonas Banaitis Printing House, Kaunas, 1907), prepared on the basis of correspondence with A. Baranauskas. Here, as it were, we get the answer to what the truly honored priest Antanas Baranauskas was looking for in the infinity of mathematics: “Mathematics was never a goal for him, but only a tool.
