Lithuanian Museum of Education – 102!

On 18 November 1922, with the support of the Kaunas City Municipality, the Pedagogical Museum and the Central Teachers’ Reading Room were opened in Kaunas, at 12 Laivės alėja.

The opening ceremony was attended by a large number of the most prominent public figures of the time. Among them were Kaunas City Mayor Jonas Vileišis, Director of the Department of Primary Education of the Ministry of Education Juozas Vokietaitis, school instructor Juozas Damijonaitis, members of the Board of the Professional Teachers’ Union Centre and others.

Vincas Ruzgas, a hard-working, active and well-educated man, was appointed head of the Pedagogical Museum and the Central Teachers’ Reading Room. Vincas Ruzgas served as head of the museum, on and off, until his death in 1972.

The photo shows a document signed by Vincas Ruzgas of the Pedagogical Museum, documenting his experience as a teacher and museum worker. The document was drawn up on 19 November 1941 and addressed to the Department of Pedagogical Training of the Board of Education.
