Jurgis Talmantas, ranks among the most famous lithuanian language researchers and linguists of the first half of the twentieth century, such as Pranas Skardžius, Antanas Salys, Petras Jonikas, Juozas Senkus, Zigmas Kuzmickis. In the history of the use and research of the Lithuanian language, J. Talmantas’ contribution is significant in terms of the development of textbooks for schoolchildren and lithuanian language teaching tools for non-native speakers. At the Lithuanian Education Museum you can get acquainted with the lithuanian language grammar, spelling textbooks, Polish, Russian, German dictionaries and other publications prepared by J. Talmantas (together with Ignas Malinauskas (Malėnai), Alfonsas Kalnis, Zigmas Kuzmickis). Separately, the work of the writer and the first historian Simonas Daukantas, prepared in 1935 for the press by Jurgis Talmantas, prepared for the press by Jurgis Talmantas , “Way of the Ancient Lithuanian Kalnėnai and Samogitians”, presented to the reader with a glossary of the Daukantian and modern Lithuanian language, is noteworthy.

Talmantas was an active member of the Lithuanian Language Society. From 1933 to 1936 he edited the magazine “Native Language”. Among other things, in one of the editorial articles of the magazine actualized the problems of the Lithuanian colloquial common language.
