Research shows that only about 30% of cultural institutions in Lithuania are fully or partially digitized. This is a low indicator in the context of the European Union. According to the Lithuanian Department of Statistics, museum attendance has decreased by 15% over the past five years, partly due to insufficient modernization of services.
The project “Digitization of Cultural Content at the Lithuanian Museum of Education to Create Products and Services that Meet the Needs of the Modern User” aims to address the following issues:
- Lack of digitized cultural resources.
The Lithuanian Museum of Education faces challenges related to the digitization of cultural resources. The existing digital content is underdeveloped and not easily accessible to the general public, limiting opportunities to engage with the museum’s collections and learn about the history of education in Lithuania through modern means. - Inefficient information presentation.
Current methods of presenting information are not effective enough to meet the needs of modern users. Visitors cannot access interactive and engaging content about the museum’s collections and the history of Lithuanian education. - Lack of accessibility and attractiveness of services.
Due to a limited number of digital tools, the museum is unable to offer modern and engaging services that would appeal to diverse audiences, including young people and international visitors. - Low public engagement in culture.
Unequal cultural consumption and passive public participation do not fully leverage the potential of culture in shaping an informed society.
Project Objective
To create high-value curated digital cultural products adapted for educational and discovery purposes through innovative means, including:
- The development of a virtual map presenting the history of Vilnius University and European higher education.
- The creation of an interactive Virtual Reality (VR) experience.
Expected Outcomes
- Digitized cultural content. The project will produce audiovisual 360° products and interactive VR experiences accessible to the general public.
- Increased visitor numbers. With new digital tools and modern services, the museum’s attendance is expected to grow.
- Improved service quality. More effective information presentation and enhanced visitor satisfaction with museum services.
By addressing the outlined challenges, the project will reduce their underlying causes and ensure long-term benefits for both the museum and society.
