The aim of the project “Education in Lithuania and the Diaspora 1940-1990” is to create an exhibition presenting the periods of Soviet and Nazi occupation and to reveal the impact of the education systems created by these regimes on the development of our society. The theme of this project is education, which is of particular relevance to the reflection on the impact of the totalitarian regimes of the Soviet and Nazi periods on the development of society, since the education system was one of the most important tools for ideologically influencing and changing the way society thought. Another crucial aspect of the project is education in the diaspora. The contribution of the diaspora in fostering national identity, helping in the struggle against the occupying regimes and their subsequent work after the restoration of independence is often underestimated or forgotten, and the educational network created by the diaspora and their relationship with Lithuania during the occupations will be highlighted in this exposition.
The themes presented in the exposition will not only contribute to public education and education, but will also enable the development of critical thinking, the recognition of propaganda or the threat posed by totalitarian regimes to the natural development of society.
The project is funded by the Action Plan for the Promotion of Museums of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. The area of the funded activity is Dissemination of culture and art.
